Nirvana Audio Visual goes GOLD!

Nirvana Audio Visual - Control4 Gold Dealer 2012We are very proud to announce that we have been accredited with Control4’s Authorized GOLD Dealer 2012.

We have worked long and hard to achieve this recognition both with our installations and behind the scenes. So, what does this mean? A Control4 Authorized Gold Dealer is one that has completed additional Control4 training, sales and experience requirements in home automation and control. Our lead programmers have now become Tech II certified, meaning they have completed and passed the highest form of Control4 training available today. This training incorporates Control4’s best practices in system design and optimization, advanced programming techniques, troubleshooting and creating custom drivers.

Our sales team has completed additional Control4 training in some of the following areas: Home automation fundamentals, audio distribution, home theater setup and customization of the Control4 systems. All of that is well and good (and gives us nice shiny certificates to pin up!), but the key to our achievement is experience. Our extensive experience not just in Control4 systems, but other systems such as lighting, audio and video distribution, security and more-so the integration of all of these has led us a cut above the rest. We would also like to add that it is not just Control4 we are highly trained and/or accredited with but other manufacturers such as Lutron, Niko, Rako, Speakercraft, Crestron, Sonos, Clipsal and the list goes on.

In a constantly evolving technological era, we are always keeping up to date with the latest products and systems, integration and installation and we will continue to move with them, gaining training and experience for as long as we exist! Next year we look forward to becoming Control4’s Authorized Platinum Dealer!

Control4 release new 7″ Portable Touch Screen

New Control4 7" Touch Screen.

Control4 have just announced the release of a brand new 7″ Portable Touch Screen. We haven’t got our hands on one as yet but from looking into it, it looks like it is based on the same technology as the fantastic Infinity Edge 7″ touch screens.

This new portable touch screen boasts a capacitive full-colour LCD panel, full 2-way control of the Control4 system, a sleek tablet form-factor, better WiFi range than it’s predecessor, long lasting rechargable battery, downloadable apps with it’s OS2.x software, and a full featured 2-way intercom between other new 7″ portable touch screens and the Infinity edge touch screens.

Just like it’s predecessor the new portable touch screen comes with a docking station for charging and when used on the docking station becomes a ‘table top’ touch screen which can be powered from either a power outlet or PoE (Power over Ethernet). When docked it can take advantage of an ethernet connection (if there is one provided).

We have been waiting a long time for this and can’t wait to get our hands on one!

Voice Recognition Coming to Control4 Systems

Now, I know what you are thinking; that voice recognition is like when you tried it on your computer some time back and had to say the same thing over and eventually it would recognise what you said, or trying to call the office from your voice command phone whilst driving down the motorway and it called your Mother instead (whilst on hands-free of course!) This isn’t necessarily the case now with modern technology and Avoca seem to have cracked this nut. In fact Avoca are going for the long shot and interfacing their voice recognition technology with Control4 systems.

This is extremely exciting news for both us in the custom install business and the end user. This could be the begining of a truly smart home! But, before getting too excited there are still some things that limit this technology from being a seamless voice recognition system. Namely that you have to talk to a portable device. So you pick up a little gizmo, press a button and talk to it, just like Scotty tried to talk to the computer in Star Trek IV. Not exactly how we at Nirvana Audio Visual would like it, but it is still a fantastic start. The voice can be heard from an Avoca wireless touch screen, but you still have to hold the touch screen and push a button. It is nearly there but we think it still has some maturing to do before you can simply walk into a room and command it.

We aren’t jumping at this just yet, but we are keeping a very keen eye on it’s development over the coming months as we think this could be the start of a new era of smart homes. But for it to really hit our sweet spot we want to simply walk into a room and talk to it, without the picking up of the touch screen and pressing a button.
